Mental Evaluation Ordered For Elijah Bieniemy In Shooting Case
A mental health evaluation has been ordered for the 27-year-old accused of shooting his mother in her Ashburn home.
ASHBURN, VA – After a motion hearing Thursday morning, Elijah Bieniemy, 27, who is accused of shooting his mother, was ordered to undergo a competency examination.
Loudoun Now reports that Bieniemy’s lawyer requested the examination, saying his client has been diagnosed with a serious illness and his mental state at the time of his alleged crimes will be crucial to his defense. His lawyer also said Bieniemy cannot afford to pay for the evaluation himself.
The judge agreed to the evaluation, the outlet reports.

Bieniemy is accused of shooting his mother, Mia Bieniemy, in her Ashburn home on Sunday evening and has been charged with three felonies.
Bieniemy is the son of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who was with the team in Missouri at the time of the shooting.
