• Charlottesville woman dead in apparent homicide now under police investigation (29news.com) — Charlottesville police are investigating the fatal shooting of 52-year-old Beatriz Mendez Feliciano, who was shot Friday evening on North Berkshire Road and later died at UVA Medical Center. Investigators say a possible suspect, described as a Hispanic man leaving in an older red car, fled the residence and are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers or city police.
   

• July 4 tradition helps local sisters give back to CASPCA (cvillerightnow.com) — Two Charlottesville sisters turned their Fourth of July lemonade stand into a fundraiser for the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA, donating $146 to support local animals. Their neighborhood effort, and the shelter’s response, highlight how even small kid-led projects can make a real difference and reflect the broader generosity of the Charlottesville community.
   

• Bronze from former Robert E. Lee statue to become new Charlottesville public art (29news.com) — Charlottesville is moving ahead with transforming the former Robert E. Lee statue into a new public artwork called “Rooted,” led by MASS Design Group and sculptor Dana King. The Jefferson School African American Heritage Center’s Swords Into Plowshares project will create a baobab-inspired pavilion, gardens, and sculptures placed around the city, with design details still being refined through continued community input.
