• Fairfax City Council can now discipline members under newly adopted code of ethics (ffxnow.com) — Fairfax City Council has unanimously adopted an 18-point code of ethics that lets the council censure members, reduce their seniority, or change committee assignments if they violate conduct standards. The new rules apply to the mayor and appointed board and commission members, emphasizing courteous, transparent behavior and requiring officials to report potential ethical violations they see in city government.
   

• Fairfax school board considers naming rights sales, but warns against getting too corporate (ffxnow.com) — Fairfax County school leaders are weighing whether to sell corporate naming rights for high school athletic facilities to help close looming budget gaps, while stressing the need to avoid over-commercializing campuses. Board members are exploring strict rules on which spaces could be sponsored, how revenue would be shared among schools, and how to protect community values and existing honorific names.
   

• Fairfax County police launch operation amid uptick in pedestrian crashes (fox5dc.com) — Fairfax County police have launched Operation Safe Right Turn to crack down on drivers turning through crosswalks without checking for people, after multiple recent crashes involving children on bikes and scooters, including a fatal one in Fairfax. Officers say they'll focus on education as well as tickets, reminding drivers that pedestrians have the right of way and fines start at $50 for failing to yield.
