Motorcyclist Dies In Late-Night Crash On Braddock Road Near Kings Park

Fairfax County police identified a Clifton man killed in a motorcycle crash near Kings Park. Detectives say speed may have been a factor.

FAIRFAX, VA — A Clifton man was killed Monday night in a motorcycle crash near Kings Park, and Fairfax County police say speed is believed to have been a factor in the collision.

The victim was identified Tuesday as Joseph Anthony Cottrell, 34, of Clifton, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

The crash happened at about 9:18 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Braddock Road and Kings Park Drive.

According to the department's Crash Reconstruction Unit, Cottrell was riding a 2022 Kawasaki ZX-10R westbound on Braddock Road when the motorcycle collided with a 2019 Lexus UX that was turning left from eastbound Braddock Road onto Kings Park Drive.

Cottrell was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The driver of the Lexus remained at the scene and was not injured, police said.

Speed Contributing Factor

Detectives said their preliminary investigation indicates speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash, while alcohol is not believed to have contributed. The investigation remains ongoing.

Following the crash, eastbound Braddock Road was closed at Kings Park Drive for several hours while detectives documented the scene and investigated. The roadway has since reopened.
