Early Voting Begins March 6 In Fredericksburg For Redistricting Amendment

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — The Fredericksburg Office of Voter Registration and Elections announced a special election will take place on April 21. This election will allow voters to consider a proposed constitutional amendment for the Commonwealth of Virginia. The amendment concerns the General Assembly's ability to redraw congressional districts for the U.S. House of Representatives.

Voters will answer a specific question on the ballot: "Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to allow the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts to restore fairness in the upcoming elections, while ensuring Virginia's standard redistricting process resumes for all future redistricting after the 2030 census?" Voters will choose either "Yes" or "No" on this question.

Early voting for the special election begins on March 6 at FXBG City Center, located on the 5th floor at 601 Caroline St. Early voting hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., running through April 18. Two Saturday voting sessions are scheduled for April 11 and April 18, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The deadline to register or update voter registration is April 14. Requests for absentee ballots by mail must be submitted by April 10. Absentee ballots sent by mail must be postmarked by April 21, and received by Friday, April 24.

A ballot dropbox will be available starting March 10. Voters can return ballots in the 24-hour drop box at the rear of FXBG City Center or at the Registrar’s Office during regular business hours. Additional drop boxes will be at all polling locations on Election Day, April 21 and will close at 7 p.m.
