Man Charged With Abduction, Malicious Wounding In Fredericksburg Assault

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A Fredericksburg man is being held in custody after police said he broke into a home Wednesday morning, forcibly removed a woman from an upstairs room and struck her in the face with a blunt object, leaving her seriously injured.

Jose Ramiro Caal Choc, 38, of Fredericksburg, was arrested following a police search of a wooded area near Ivanhoe Court, according to the Fredericksburg Police Department.

The incident began shortly before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, when the E-911 Emergency Communications Center received a report of a woman suffering serious injuries following an assault on Ivanhoe Court, police said. The woman was taken to a local hospital, where police said she remained in serious condition.

Police said Caal Choc and the woman are in a relationship and share a residence on Roffman Road.

Police Say Suspect Broke Glass Door To Enter Home

According to investigators, Caal Choc left the couple's Roffman Road residence and walked to another home on Ivanhoe Court, where the woman was located. Police accused him of breaking a glass door to enter the residence, finding the woman in an upstairs room and forcibly removing her from the room.

Caal Choc then struck the woman in the face with a blunt object, police said.

After the assault, Caal Choc ran from the area and entered nearby woods, according to police. Officers established a perimeter and began a K-9 track before locating him. He was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Caal Choc was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries that police said he sustained while breaking into the Ivanhoe Court residence.

Court records filed Thursday identify Caal Choc as being in custody and show charges stemming from Wednesday's incident. One General District Court case charges him with entering a house to commit assault and battery, a felony under Virginia Code § 18.2-91. A second case charges him with felony destruction of property.

Records in Fredericksburg Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court also show Caal Choc charged with malicious assault involving an injured victim, a Class 2 felony, and abduction by force or intimidation, a Class 5 felony.

He also faces a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery against a family or household member. Court records list an adjudicatory hearing in that case for Oct. 21 at 2 p.m

Police said an emergency protective order was issued. Caal Choc was being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail, according to the department.

Court records show he was arraigned Thursday morning. The two General District Court cases were transferred to another court, while the J&DR records show arraignments Thursday on the domestic-related charges.
