Pest Devices, Sanitizer Problems Found During Fredericksburg Restaurant Inspections

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Several Fredericksburg-area food establishments were cited for health code violations during Virginia Department of Health inspections conducted between July 1 and July 7, 2026.

The inspections, performed by the Rappahannock Area Health District, identified issues ranging from unapproved pest control devices and sanitizer problems to employee training, labeling and temperature-control deficiencies.

Below is a summary of establishments that received one or more violations during the inspection period.

El Jimador Azteca, 560 Celebrate Virginia Parkway, Suite 109, Fredericksburg, received the largest number of violations during a July 1 follow-up inspection. Inspectors observed an employee washing hands improperly, knives stored in a handwashing sink, a bar hand sink that failed to provide hot water at the required temperature, beverages stored beneath a hand sink, equipment needing repair, dirty shelving and floors, and missing employee health documentation. The inspector also noted the facility was using the three-compartment sink for warewashing while the dishwasher was being used only to rinse dishes.

Mobile Food Units, Coffee Shops Cited

The Dog House, We Let the Dogs Out (VA HOTDAWG), 816 Anvil Road, Fredericksburg, a mobile food unit, was inspected July 1. Inspectors cited the operator for not having a Certified Food Protection Manager and for not having a quaternary ammonium sanitizer test kit available. The mobile unit was not operating during the inspection and no temperature-controlled foods were on site.

Dunkin, 551 Warrenton Road, Fredericksburg, received one violation during a July 2 routine inspection after inspectors found floors beneath equipment in need of cleaning.

Antojitos Belen, 816 Anvil Road, Fredericksburg, a mobile food unit inspected July 2, was cited after the operator could not provide documentation showing employees had received required health policy training. Training and employee health signage were completed during the inspection.

Black Rifle Coffee of Fredericksburg, 591 Warrenton Road, Fredericksburg, was cited July 2 after inspectors found the interior of the ice machine needed cleaning.

Southern Style Chicken & Waffle, 7132 Salem Fields Blvd., Fredericksburg, received one violation during a July 6 inspection after inspectors found bottled lemonade, strawberry lemonade and a tea-lemonade blend prepared in-house were being offered for sale without required labels identifying ingredients and other required information.

Hard Times Cafe Had Multiple Violations

Hard Times Cafe, 10760 Patriot Highway, Fredericksburg, received numerous violations during a July 6 inspection. Inspectors cited the restaurant for lacking approved written procedures for noncontinuous cooking of chicken wings, missing paper towels at a hand sink, a dishwasher that was not dispensing sanitizer, improper cleaning procedures for chili vats, homemade ranch and Mexican ranch dressings held above the required cold temperature, unapproved pest control devices, damaged equipment, an expired sanitizer test kit, dirty equipment and facility surfaces, and a plumbing backflow concern at the mop sink. Operators voluntarily discarded temperature-controlled sauces that were out of compliance and removed the unapproved pest control devices during the inspection.

Starbucks Coffee #23175, 821 Warrenton Road, Fredericksburg, received one violation during a July 7 routine inspection after inspectors found floors beneath equipment and a ceiling tile above the ice machine in need of cleaning.
