Descendants of first enslaved Africans to arrive in Virginia reflect on America's 250th anniversary (wtkr.com) — In Hampton at Fort Monroe’s African Landing Memorial Plaza, descendants of the first enslaved Africans are reflecting on their family’s roots as America approaches its 250th anniversary. The Tucker family shares stories of ancestor William Tucker and explains how the still-evolving memorial connects their present lives to both the trauma and resilience that began at Point Comfort in 1619.

3. Virginia has a budget (dailypress.com) — Virginia’s newly approved two-year budget includes a requirement that new data centers in the Eastern Virginia Groundwater Management Area, which covers Hampton Roads, prove they’re conserving water. The plan also restores Chesapeake Bay menhaden study funds, boosts home care worker pay, expands RGGI rebates, and funds firefighter cancer screenings and statewide digital services.
