• ‘I'm very excited for the future of the Coast Guard,' says commanding officer of Training Center Yorktown (wavy.com) — Yorktown’s Coast Guard Training Center is rapidly expanding as recruiting surges, with leaders expecting to add 15,000 members to the service over the next few years. Commanding Officer Capt. Scott Rae says Yorktown, already the Coast Guard’s largest training center, will need to grow further to handle more graduates and advanced simulations that prepare crews for emergencies on America’s waterways. 
• Schiefer bikes across country for MS fundraiser (wilsontimes.com) — A cross-country MS fundraising ride kicked off in Yorktown sending 30 cyclists on a nine-week journey to San Francisco that ultimately raised more than $440,000.
