• Dates for Temporary Military Installation at DC's Lincoln Memorial Have Been Extended (northernvirginiamag.com) — A Herndon resident is among many locals discovering USAA's temporary National Military Monument at the Lincoln Memorial, where more than 41 million veterans' names scroll across giant digital flags. The free exhibit, now extended through November 12, lets visitors search loved ones' names on-site or online and even cue them to appear on the display for photos and remembrance.
   

• Fairfax County apartment rents down slightly compared to summer 2025 (ffxnow.com) — Herndon renters are seeing slightly higher prices than last year, with August median rents at $1,870 for one-bedroom apartments and $2,244 for two-bedrooms, up 0.4%. The report places Herndon within a Fairfax County market where overall rents have dipped slightly year-over-year but remain well above pre-pandemic levels and continue to edge upward in 2026.
   

• Illegal immigrant Alexis Cedillos-Campos allegedly stabbed Virginia co-worker Carmen Puch after she exposed their affair to his girlfriend (amedpost.com) — Herndon readers may recognize Bitez restaurant, where both the suspect and victim in a recent Fairfax County homicide worked before the killing. Prosecutors allege the 19-year-old man fatally stabbed his co-worker near Difficult Run Park after she revealed their affair, and say he later confessed; he's now jailed without bond awaiting a November court date.
