• A British Royal Is Coming to Mount Vernon: Duke of Edinburgh Visits Oct. 1 (thezebra.org) — Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, will visit George Washington's Mount Vernon estate on Thursday, Oct. 1, and the grounds will stay open to the public during his tour. He'll see the new education center, the mansion, a Revolutionary War encampment and Washington's tomb, bringing international attention to a landmark right in Mount Vernon's backyard. 
• Fairfax County supervisors honor outgoing leaders in economic development, human services arenas (ffxnow.com) — Fairfax County supervisors recently honored outgoing economic development chief Victor Hoskins and longtime human services leader Christopher Leonard for their years of service. Mount Vernon District Supervisor Dan Storck praised Hoskins' vision and collaboration, highlighting how their work helped strengthen regional growth and the county's social safety net that Mount Vernon residents rely on.
