Alexandria Man Convicted Of Attempted Rape In Attack On Hotel Housekeeper: Prosecutor

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA – An Alexandria man has been convicted of attempted rape over an attack on a hotel housekeeper, Fairfax County authorities announced Thursday.

Oscar Barrios, 47, was convicted by a judge of attempted rape for attacking a housekeeper at the Quality Inn in Mount Vernon in October 2025.

Prosecutors say the victim, a 51-year-old woman, was cleaning an empty room when Barrios entered and locked the door. When the victim tried to leave, he hit her with a beer bottle, grabbed her and threw her on the bed, trying to take off her clothes. The victim was able to escape when Barrios stood up to try to get her phone as she was trying to call for help.

Prosecutors said they had surveillance footage showing Barrios buying the beer bottle he struck the victim with and walking toward the hotel as well as footage over several days showing him wearing a particular lanyard seen on the day of the attack.

The Fairfax Sheriff’s Department also said it intercepted a letter Barrios wrote while in detention, asking a friend whether they should find the victim and offer her money to refuse to testify.

Barrios was convicted after a two-day bench trial. The attempted rape charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 4.
