HERNDON, VA — An international defense technology company that develops AI-powered targeting systems for military weapons has expanded its U.S. operations by opening new offices in Herndon.

Smart Shooter, which has facilities in Israel, the United States, Europe and Australia, recently celebrated the opening of its expanded offices in Dulles Office Park. The location will provide additional support, maintenance and equipment deployment services for U.S. military customers.

The expansion comes as the company reports growing demand for its SMASH fire control systems, which use artificial intelligence, computer vision and target-tracking technology to improve the accuracy of small arms against moving targets, including drones.

Thompson said the new offices will allow the company to work more closely with military customers and provide maintenance and other support as additional systems are deployed.

The company's technology is also used by defense and security forces in Israel, the United Kingdom, Germany and other NATO and allied countries.

Fairfax County's Defense Technology Industry

Smart Shooter's expansion adds to Fairfax County's concentration of defense contractors and technology companies serving federal agencies and the military.

Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeff McKay said the company's investment reflects the area's established defense industry and access to specialized workers.

"Smart Shooter's expansion in Herndon is a testament to the strength of our local business community, and the advantages Fairfax County offers companies serving critical national defense missions," McKay said.

Representatives from the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority attended the company's grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony.

George D. Thomas, the authority's president and CEO, cited the county's proximity to federal and military customers, defense contractors and skilled workers as advantages for international companies expanding their U.S. operations.

The company did not disclose the cost of the expansion, the size of the new office space or whether the move will create additional jobs in Herndon.
