Meet the Cast of Diverse, Modern Oklahoma! at Mill Mountain Theatre (playbill.com) — Mill Mountain Theatre in downtown Roanoke is staging a modern, more diverse production of Oklahoma! with performances running September 15 through October 4. With inclusive casting and a fresh, darker take on the classic, the show aims to spark new conversations while still delivering the beloved songs local theatergoers know well.
   

2. Roanoke Valley Resource Authority encouraging residents to identify hidden hazards during National Preparedness Month (wsls.com) — Roanoke-area residents are being urged to check their homes for hazardous items like batteries, chemicals, and old paint and use new online tools from the Roanoke Valley Resource Authority to handle them safely. The agency is also offering free, appointment-only Household Hazardous Waste Collection Days at the Tinker Creek Transfer Station for Roanoke, Roanoke County, Salem, and Vinton residents.

Summer Experience: Laura Powers '28L (wlu.edu) — A law student spent her summer clerking at a Roanoke family law firm, gaining hands-on experience with divorce filings, custody hearings, and a complex international child abduction case. The work confirmed her desire to stay in Southwest Virginia, even as it nudged her interests toward broader policy and advocacy rather than traditional family law practice.
   

4. Los Angeles Lakers Head Coach JJ Redick Inspires Roanoke County Students During Valley Homecoming (wdbj7.com) — Roanoke County students got a rare pep talk from Los Angeles Lakers head coach and Cave Spring alum JJ Redick during a homecoming event at the Summit Sportsplex. Redick shared how hard work, resilience, and embracing failure fueled his journey from Roanoke Valley standout to NBA player and coach, hoping to spark similar ambition in local kids.
   

5. Cline Joins Small Business Roundtable in Roanoke (house.gov) — Roanoke business owners recently met with Congressman Ben Cline and an SBA leader to share the challenges they're facing and learn about available federal resources. The group also toured Butler Parachute Systems' Roanoke facility, highlighting local advanced manufacturing and how national tax and regulatory policies are affecting small employers here.
