Vienna PE Teacher Named Best In State

VIENNA, VA – A Vienna physical education teacher has earned statewide recognition for his work with students and fellow educators.

Patrick Noel, a physical education teacher at Colvin Run Elementary School, was named the Virginia Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the Virginia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, according to Fairfax County Public Schools.

Noel was recognized for his approach to physical education and his efforts to help students build resilience and perseverance.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Noel created basketball trick-shot videos as a way to stay connected with students learning remotely. He later incorporated similar activities into his lessons, using them to teach students about practicing through frustration, learning from mistakes and continuing to improve.

Noel also provides professional development for other educators and has presented at regional and national conferences, FCPS said.

Noel was given the award during the association's convention in October.

Colvin Run Elementary School is part of Fairfax County Public Schools.
