1. Name, rates proposed for new facility in Parkersburg City Park (newsandsentinel.com) — Parkersburg residents are about to get a major new activity and recreation center in City Park, with City Council poised to name it the Simms Powell Pavilion and set rental rates. The nearly 46,000-square-foot facility will offer gym space, multipurpose arenas, a full kitchen, and meeting rooms, with fees structured to offset operating costs without adding new tax burdens. 
2. Parkersburg Piccalilli (iheart.com) — Artists and art lovers in Parkersburg can spend Friday, September 18, 2026, immersed in workshops, networking, and a pop-up exhibit during Parkersburg Piccalilli at the Parkersburg Art Center. Registration includes meals, access to all Friday programming, and an evening Art After Hours reception, with optional extended workshops and a keynote by West Virginia illustrator Rosalie Haizlett.
3. WVU Parkersburg again in Metallica Scholars Initiative (newsandsentinel.com) — WVU Parkersburg has again been selected for the Metallica Scholars Initiative, bringing grant-funded scholarships and certification support to local students in trades and technology fields. The program has already helped more than a hundred WVU Parkersburg students with tuition and exams, and this new round of funding will expand opportunities in high-demand careers while strengthening the Mid-Ohio Valley workforce.
4. West Virginia audiologists unknowingly adopt a deaf puppy (wowktv.com) — A Parkersburg audiologist couple discovered the blue heeler puppy they adopted, Pips, is deaf and have taught her to communicate through hand signals and a vibrating collar. Their experience with Pips has deepened their empathy for patients with hearing loss and given their children a firsthand lesson in inclusion and different communication needs.
5. Washington County Grand Jury indicts 16, including 3 for multiple thefts (newsandsentinel.com) — A Washington County Grand Jury has indicted 16 people in a series of Ohio cases, including a Parkersburg man accused in a multi-location theft spree that crossed from West Virginia into Ohio. Parkersburg Police and the Wood County Sheriff's Office worked closely with Ohio agencies to investigate the alleged break-ins, vehicle theft, and other property crimes affecting nearby communities.
