All Milwaukee Public Schools Closed Friday As City Celebrates Brewers

The district pointed to safety and operations concerns. Here's what families need to know about Friday's closure.

MILWAUKEE, WI — Milwaukee Public Schools will be closed Friday as the city celebrates the Brewers' first World Series championship in franchise history.

The district said all schools and district offices will be closed Friday, Oct. 30, because of operations and safety impacts from the parade and celebration downtown. "Congrats to the world champion Milwaukee Brewers!" the district wrote in its closure announcement Thursday, directing staff and families to check their email for details.

Superintendent Brenda Cassellius cited potential disruptions to transportation, staffing, food deliveries and student safety, WTMJ reported. Under the district's closure plan, staff at school sites and district offices will not report, and there will be no classes or before- or after-school activities. Milwaukee Recreation programs are also canceled, except for high school postseason athletic events.
