• Erick Bell Appointed to AUSD Board of Education (alamedapost.com) — Alameda residents have a new voice on the school board, with Erick Bell appointed to fill a vacant AUSD seat through November 2028. The district is also breaking ground on a rebuilt Otis Elementary campus and inviting all Alameda students to a free, wide-ranging college fair at Wood Middle School on October 7.
   

• Filipino Island Fest (nbcbayarea.com) — Alameda Point will host the Filipino Island Fest on Saturday, October 3, bringing a full day of Filipino and Filipino American culture, music, dance, and art to 2151 Ferry Point. With the theme "Rooted Here," the festival features headliner Rebel SoulJahz and other performers, runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and offers discounted advance admission and free entry for young kids and seniors.
   

• Coast Guard suspends search for missing cruise ship passenger (sandiegocountynews.com) — Coast Guard personnel based in Alameda have suspended their search for a 56-year-old Carnival Panorama passenger who went overboard off the coast of Mexico. Alameda's Rescue Coordination Center directed aircraft and international partners in a 41-hour, 1,700-square-mile search before halting efforts pending new information, while extending condolences to the man's family and confirming the incident remains under investigation.
