LAKE ELSINORE, CA — If you noticed few fireworks shooting off in the pre and post July 4th holiday weekend, this may be why.

A total of 33 citations were issued for possession of fireworks, 6 criminal violations for possession with intent to distribute fireworks and 750 pounds of fireworks were seized, according to a recent news release shared by the Lake Elsinore Sheriff's Station Sgt. Jarrod Meissen.

The Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station’s Special Enforcement Team and Investigations Bureau took a proactive approach to combat illegal and dangerous fireworks within our communities in 2026, they say.

Every year, numerous medical emergencies, some of which are fatal, occur due to lightning and the possession of dangerous fireworks, according to Meissen.

"Throughout the operation, numerous individuals were contacted, cited, and educated about the dangers associated with lighting illegal fireworks in their communities," he said.

The Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station encourages the communities we serve to enjoy our nation’s holidays in a safe environment and to leave the pyrotechnics and fireworks to the professionals.

What happens to the seized fireworks?

The nearly 750 pounds of fireworks will later be destroyed by the Riverside Sheriff’s Hazardous Devices Team, according to Meissen.

As a reminder, “Community Policing” involves partnerships between law enforcement and community members. Business owners and residents are encouraged to report criminal activity directly to law enforcement by calling Sheriff’s Dispatch at (951) 776–1099, or by calling 911 if the matter is an emergency.
