• Fire department adapts operations as diesel prices rise nationwide (kkco11news.com) — Grand Junction's fire department is adjusting how it uses its diesel-powered trucks and equipment so rising fuel costs don't reduce emergency response or service quality. Crews are combining errands with calls and trimming unnecessary trips while keeping all vehicles fully available for fires, rescues, and medical emergencies. Leaders stress residents should not notice any change in protection.
   

• Veterans receive winter support at Stand Down event (kkco11news.com) — In Grand Junction, local Veterans of Foreign Wars leaders recently hosted a Stand Down event where veterans received donated winter clothing, backpacks, hygiene items, lunch, and free haircuts. Community members supplied all the clothing, and organizers say residents can still support future winter and summer Stand Down resource fairs by contacting the VFW to donate or get involved.
   

• Miscues trouble Mavs in loss to Western Colorado (westernslopenow.com) — Colorado Mesa football fans in Grand Junction watched the Mavs fall 31-17 to Western Colorado after costly miscues in a pivotal second quarter. Despite 231 passing yards from CMU, two turnovers before halftime set up quick Mountaineer scores. Mesa added a late touchdown but couldn't rally and now heads to CSU Pueblo next weekend.
