Fall open burn season begins (mesacounty.us) — Open burn season starts September 18 for Mesa County, with burning allowed in the City of Grand Junction through September 30 and in the rest of the county through October 31. Residents must secure a burn permit, check daily air quality and fire conditions, and follow any No Burn Advisories, with easy online applications and alternatives like composting available locally.
   

2. Vehicle Rollover Crash, Mile 27 on I-70 (junctionnow.com) — Emergency crews rushed to a rollover crash Friday afternoon on westbound I-70 near mile marker 27 by the 23 Road overpass in Grand Junction, where a vehicle rolled several times and ended up facing the wrong way. Multiple patients, including two children with minor injuries, were treated, and investigators are looking into a possible hit-and-run involving a second vehicle stopped farther down the highway.
   

3. Oktoberfest celebration returns to Grand Junction's historic Cross Orchards (kkco11news.com) — Grand Junction residents can head to Cross Orchards today from 1–6 p.m. for a free Oktoberfest packed with train rides, costume contests, live music, and fresh cider. It's also one of your last chances to enjoy this historic 14‑acre orchard before it closes to the public in December while new ownership is sought.
   

4. Leaders debate Colorado water and river management (westernslopenow.com) — State and federal leaders gathered at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction to hash out Colorado River management, funding, and infrastructure priorities that directly affect Western Slope water users. They highlighted bipartisan support for projects like the Shoshone Permanency Project and stressed protecting Colorado's farmers, ranchers, and cities as negotiations with Lower Basin states over shrinking river supplies continue.
   

5. Colorado River District hosts annual water seminar at CMU (kkco11news.com) — Grand Junction hosted the Colorado River District's annual water seminar at CMU, drawing more than 400 attendees and 20 speakers to tackle drought and river management. Local residents and officials heard updates on funding for the Shoshone Water Rights Preservation Project and practical strategies communities can use to protect their water future.
