• Leon County building stormwater model to pinpoint what caused 2024 flood (wtxl.com) — Leon County is spending $70,000 on a detailed stormwater model to finally pinpoint what caused the 2024 flooding that shut down parts of northeast Tallahassee’s Miccosukee Greenway for nearly a year. Engineers will map terrain, culverts, and ditches so officials can target fixes, while local advocates still question whether the nearby Dove Pond dam should face closer scrutiny.
   

• Tallahassee Urban League calls on youth to avoid pop-up parties amid safety concerns (wtxl.com) — Community leaders in northwest Tallahassee are urging teens to steer clear of increasingly violent pop-up parties and instead plug into the Tallahassee Urban League’s Empowerment Week, running June 15–20. At a Frenchtown press conference, city officials and police stressed education, prevention, and quick calls to 911 when gatherings turn unsafe, while parents were asked to help guide youth toward safer choices.
   

• Former Florida Chief Justice lying in state (wctv.tv) — Former Florida Chief Justice R. Fred Lewis, who died in Tallahassee at 78, is being honored as he lies in state at the Florida Supreme Court rotunda ahead of a memorial service. Lewis, remembered for his education outreach and years on the state’s highest court, is being praised by current justices for his service to Floridians.

  • FYI there is a pretty good size gator in the drainage area on Shady Oaks.
