Cedartown ends school zone speed camera program, citing new state law (wgaaradio.com) — Cedartown’s school zone speed cameras are being removed after the city commission voted to end its contract with RedSpeed in response to a new Georgia law. Commissioner Jessica Payton says the cameras reduced extreme speeding near Cedartown High and Middle schools and helped fund police and fire equipment, contributing to a 2025 property tax cut. She’s urging drivers to keep slowing down in school zones even without cameras.
   

2. "There are about 40,000 to 50,000 kids experiencing homelessness in Georgia": Georgia nonprofit offers place for youth experiencing challenges to rebuild (cbsnews.com) — A Cedartown-based nonprofit, Safe Haven Boys Ranch, is giving homeless and struggling boys a fresh start on a 45-acre property with animals, gardens, and on-site housing. Founded in 2022, the Christian ranch has already helped more than 100 children and plans to expand to 12 homes, offering stability, schooling, and long-term support without placing kids in state custody or foster care.
   

3. Former Polk County officer arrested, accused of misusing Flock camera system (wrganews.com) — A former Polk County Police officer from Cedartown has been arrested on misdemeanor charges tied to alleged misuse of the Cedartown Police Department’s Flock license plate reader system. Investigators say the system was accessed several times for non-law-enforcement reasons between 2024 and 2025. The GBI’s probe continues, and the case will go to the Tallapoosa Judicial Circuit district attorney.
