GDOT pledges better info on delayed Second Avenue project (northwestgeorgianews.com) — Drivers in Rome face a much longer wait for the Second Avenue widening, now only 30% complete and nearly a year behind schedule, with GDOT projecting completion in September 2027. At a town hall in Rome City Hall, state and local officials pressed transportation leaders, who blamed hidden utility lines and redesigns but promised more frequent updates, transparency, and efforts to speed up work.

Rome Public Works Committee Reviews Traffic Trends, Infrastructure Issues, and April Department Reports (coosavalleynews.com) — Rome’s Public Works, Traffic, Transit & Trails Committee just reviewed April infrastructure, traffic safety, and department performance, including accident trends and high‑risk intersections around town. Officials discussed drainage issues in Summerville Park, Chulio Road updates, Turner McCall fencing, and preparations for the June 27 PRIDE Parade, along with extensive street, cemetery, and engineering work that directly affects daily driving and neighborhood conditions.

3. April Belcher (polktoday.com) — Family and friends in our area are mourning April Leigh Belcher, a 44-year-old Aragon resident who was born in Rome and passed away Monday. Loved for her devotion to family, love of fishing, mountain trips, photography, and her dogs, she’ll be remembered at a memorial service Friday evening at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home, with visitation an hour before.

UPDATE: Trion High School senior in ICE custody after crash, weeks before graduation (local3news.com) — A Trion High School senior has been moved through the Floyd County Jail in Rome and is now in ICE detention after a minor traffic crash, just days before his expected graduation. Local officials, including a state representative, and community members are questioning whether immigration enforcement should target students over low-level traffic charges and are rallying with letters and fundraising to support his case.
