• Former Bowie Officer Sentenced After Firing Weapon At Driver (patch.com) — A former Bowie police officer has been sentenced after firing his weapon at a man during a 2024 roadside encounter on Collington Road near Route 50 in Bowie, with a bullet striking a passing car. Following a bench trial, he was convicted of attempted second-degree murder and other charges and received a 30-year sentence, with all but 18 months on home detention suspended and five years of supervised probation.

• Bowie State University Named 2026 Top Yellow Ribbon School (thehbcuadvocate.com) — Bowie residents connected to Bowie State University may be interested to know the school has been named a 2026 Top Yellow Ribbon School for its support of veterans, active-duty members, and military families. The university is expanding its Military Resource Center, strengthening partnerships with bases and employers, and serving more than 500 military-affiliated students through benefits guidance, internships, and faculty training.
