UMD says Purple Line 90% complete, testing will continue through fall semester (dbknews.com) — Nighttime Purple Line testing between College Park Metro and the University of Maryland Global Campus will bring intermittent 15-minute delays and some crosswalk and road closures on and around campus this fall. University officials urge extra caution near embedded rail tracks, especially for micromobility and wheelchair users, and say more details are available on the Purple Line construction notices website.
   

2. Teacher At All-Girls Catholic School In Prince George's County Charged With Distributing, Possessing Child Pornography (thebaynet.com) — State police have charged a 70-year-old College Park resident with multiple counts of distributing and possessing child pornography after serving a search warrant at his home. Investigators say he currently teaches at Elizabeth Seton High School in Bladensburg and are asking anyone with information related to the case to contact the Maryland State Police Child Exploitation Unit.
   

3. New building brings Maryland Hillel back to its original site 80 years later (dbknews.com) — Maryland Hillel has opened its new Rosenbloom Center back on Yale Avenue, just off downtown College Park and closer to many academic buildings and off-campus housing. The $27 million facility offers larger worship and social spaces, kosher kitchens, study areas, and a cafe, aiming to better serve thousands of Jewish students while welcoming the broader campus community.
   

4. Here's what to know about construction projects on campus (dbknews.com) — Students in College Park are navigating major campus changes, from dorm renovations in Ellicott and Hagerstown halls to the near-complete Stanley R. Zupnik Hall and ongoing Purple Line testing between College Park Metro and UMGC. Additional projects include the Health and Human Sciences Complex, Central Energy Plant upgrades, and new road, utility, and bike lane work stretching into 2027.
   

5. Where to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in the DC area (wtop.com) — College Park residents can join a free Hispanic Heritage Month celebration at Duvall Field, featuring live music, dancing, authentic food, inflatables, and kids' crafts. The guide also lists many other festivals, performances, and cultural events across the broader D.C. region running through mid-October.
