Worcester Man Charged After Police Find Gun, Drugs In Vehicle
Police said they found him slumped over the wheel of a vehicle Wednesday night.
WORCESTER, MA — A Worcester man is facing gun and drug charges after police said they found him slumped over the wheel of a vehicle Wednesday night.
Charles Harris, 58, was found slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle on Church Street at about 10:45 p.m. with suspected illegal drug paraphernalia in his lap, according to Worcester police.
After officers assigned to the Worcester Police Department's Summer Impact team woke Harris, he began reaching under his seat and was removed from the vehicle, police said.
Officers found a leather holster in the area where Harris had been reaching. During a search, they also found a bag containing suspected fentanyl on Harris, according to police.
Police later searched the vehicle and found a firearm inside a backpack. Further investigation determined Harris did not have a Massachusetts license to carry or a firearm identification (FID) card, according to police.
The department's Crime Scene Unit responded to process the firearm, and Harris was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Harris was charged with possession of a large-capacity firearm, possession of a firearm without an FID card, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, improper storage of a firearm and possession of a Class A drug.
