📰 News we're reading

1. Plan looks to remove Clark Fork River dam, improve fish passage (missoulacurrent.com) — Missoula County is backing a Trout Unlimited plan to reconstruct the Grass Valley French Ditch diversion dam on the Clark Fork River, aiming to improve fish passage, boater safety, and irrigation reliability. If a roughly $3 million federal grant comes through, residents could see safer boating toward Kelly Island, healthier native fisheries, and more secure water for about 2,500 irrigated acres.

2. City of Missoula rolls out its updated Reserve to Scott Master Plan during third and final open house (kpax.com) — Missoula officials just unveiled the updated North Reserve to Scott Street Master Plan at a third and final open house, outlining new zoning, road connections, and park possibilities. Residents and local professionals largely praised the focus on bike and pedestrian safety, denser housing, and future parks. The plan now heads to the MRA board and then City Council for approval.

3. Humane Society of Western Montana hosts monthly free vaccine clinic for pets (nbcmontana.com) — Missoula pet owners can get free vaccinations and microchipping for their cats and dogs at the Humane Society of Western Montana's monthly clinic this Thursday at Silver Park, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Organizers expect a large turnout, so attendees should be prepared for possible waits and keep an eye out for any weather-related postponement updates.

4. Amanda Browder is about to wrap Missoula in fabric (thepulp.org) — Missoula will see its Music Building and the downtown Brunswick Building wrapped in colorful fabric this fall as artist Amanda Browder leads a community-driven "Soft Monuments" project. Public sewing days, fabric donation bins, and a UM course will invite residents of all ages and skill levels to help create the large-scale textile installations. Expect a roaming, creative hub where you can sew, donate fabric, or simply hang out.

5. Jury trial set for next August in Sheehy ammo injury lawsuit (nbcmontana.com) — A federal judge in Missoula has scheduled U.S. Sen. Tim Sheehy's ammunition injury lawsuit for a seven-member jury trial on August 30, 2027, at the Russell Smith Federal Courthouse downtown. Key deadlines for expert disclosures, discovery, and motions now stretch through next summer, outlining how the high-profile product liability case will move forward locally.
