Italian Heritage Month Events In Montclair, Bloomfield Will Include Dance, Music, Stories

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A series of programs in Montclair and Bloomfield will celebrate Italian Heritage Month this October.

D’Italia Programs is a nonprofit cultural organization that includes the Coro d’Italia Singing and Dancing Ensemble, will be hosting a series of four events featuring Italian and Italian American music, dance, traditions, language and family heritage.

Here’s what the group is planning in Montclair and Bloomfield:

Sunday, Oct. 4 at 3 p.m. – “Nella Piazza!” In the Piazza! Musical Show; to be held at the Wally Choice Community Center, 49 Maple Avenue, Montclair. The lively performance will recreate the spirit of an Italian piazza through Italian and Italian American songs, folk music, dance, and special guest performers. Tickets: $30 general admission, $20 seniors/students, $50 supporters. Reservations are recommended.

Saturday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. – Festa dei Bambini (Children’s Italian Festival); to be held at the Montclair Public Library, 185 Bellevue Avenue Branch. Children and families are invited to discover Italian culture through music, dance, stories, traditions, and hands-on activities.

Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. – How Italian Are You…or Do You Speak Gabagool?; to be held at the Montclair Public Library. Bellevue Avenue Branch, 185 Bellevue Avenue. This lighthearted evening explores Italian American identity through the words, foods, customs, and family stories passed from one generation to another. Guest speakers and, of course, dolce will be part of the evening. Reservations are suggested.

Monday, Oct. 26 at 1:30 p.m. – Tarantella and Beyond!, to be held at Oakeside Cultural Center, 240 Belleville Avenue, Bloomfield. This interactive program celebrates traditional Italian folk music and dance with tarantellas, tambourine rhythms, audience participation, and plenty of opportunities to join in the fun.
