Crews from Jamesport and Flanders assisted with rapid intervention and standby coverage, and officials reported no injuries as Riverhead personnel cleared the scene in under an hour.

Riverhead awards $328K HVAC contract, advances sewer projects (riverheadlocal.com) — Riverhead residents should know the Town Board just approved a $328,000 HVAC upgrade for the George Young Community Center and advanced several major sewer and grant-funded infrastructure projects. The board also accepted multiple retirements in the police and assessor's offices, backed hazard mitigation and records digitization, and scheduled an October 6 hearing on 2027 federal Community Development Block Grant funding for local needs.

Riverhead Town Board roundup: Wading River Duck Pond restoration advances to engineering phase (timesreview.com) — Riverhead is moving ahead with engineering work to restore the Wading River Duck Pond, splitting costs with Brookhaven and seeking major grant funding for a full overhaul. The Town Board also funded repairs to the Route 58 armory so Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance can operate there during HQ construction and authorized litigation over alleged code violations at 47 Bayside Avenue in Jamesport.

How 20 Southold properties used nearly 32 million gallons of public water in 13 months (northforksun.com) — Extreme water use at 20 Southold properties is fueling a broader East End debate over conservation, pricing and a controversial Suffolk County Water Authority pipeline now tied up in litigation with Riverhead Town. Riverhead's own water superintendent describes how local summer demand can spike nearly tenfold, while officials float ideas like higher conservation rates, private irrigation wells and expanded wastewater reuse modeled partly on Riverhead's Indian Island golf course project.
   

5. Romaine's $4.59 billion budget proposal holds county general fund tax levy steady (riverheadlocal.com) — Riverhead homeowners won't see county general fund or community college property tax hikes under Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine's proposed 2027 budget, and county police and District Court tax increases won't apply here. The $4.59 billion plan leans heavily on sales tax revenue while funding transit, public safety, wastewater upgrades and social services, and now heads to the Republican-controlled Legislature for review.
