• Pets rescued from structure fire in Syracuse (cnycentral.com) — Firefighters responded Friday night to a Signal 99 house fire on Hood Avenue in Syracuse, quickly knocking down flames and rescuing several pets trapped inside. No residents were identified at the scene, and crews fully extinguished the blaze within about twenty minutes. Investigators say an unattended candle sparked the fire, underscoring a common household safety risk.

• Cicero Police Dept. now accepting applications for new "Police Explorer Program" (cnycentral.com) — Cicero Police are launching a new Police Explorer Program and are now accepting applications from teens and young adults, with preference for students in North Syracuse and Central Square districts. Participants will get hands-on exposure to police work, leadership roles, and ride-alongs, while being held to professional standards on uniforms, attendance, and public conduct.

• The Once-Quiet New York Lake Town That Summer Crowds Have Completely Taken Over In The Last Few Years (takingthekids.com) — Skaneateles, just 20 minutes from Syracuse, is seeing summer crowds surge as more Central New Yorkers discover its ultra-clear lake that supplies Syracuse's drinking water. The piece walks you through parks, shops, festivals, and family-friendly spots, while warning about parking crunches and peak-season lines.
