📰 News we're reading

1. Apex homeowners face tax increase to expand public safety, utlities (wral.com) — Apex homeowners are facing a property tax increase next year, with the rate rising to 37.35 cents per $100 of value and higher utility rates also on the table. The added revenue would fund public safety staffing, fleet replacements, parks and recreation, technology upgrades, and major electric and water infrastructure as the town continues to grow.

2. white oak foundation townhomes affordable housing (spectrumlocalnews.com) — Apex residents now have a new 30-unit townhome community from the White Oak Foundation, with half the homes reserved as affordable housing for moderate-income households. Backed by Wake County and local partners, the project blends market-rate and affordable units and is planned as a springboard to a future senior living facility serving local housing needs.

3. Where to celebrate the 4th of July across the Triangle and central NC (abc11.com) — Families in Apex can look forward to games, activities, and the kid-friendly Parade of Wheels as part of this year’s Fourth of July festivities. The roundup also highlights major celebrations in Raleigh, Cary, Durham, Chapel Hill, and other nearby towns, giving Apex residents multiple options for fireworks, parades, and festivals throughout the holiday week.

4. Data center moratorium fever for NC local governments (carolinapublicpress.org) — Apex is among several Triangle communities that have temporarily paused new data center projects, joining Durham, Chatham County, Orange County and others reassessing rules for these power- and water-hungry facilities. A statewide wave of moratoriums, including in Charlotte and Rowan County, reflects growing concern about how AI-driven data center growth could strain local infrastructure and neighborhoods while still promising economic benefits.
