Today's riddle: What did the inventor of the knock-knock joke win? 🤔 (Answer below!)
• Some Wake towns' reliance on Raleigh water creates ripple effects during drought (wral.com) — Apex’s independent Jordan Lake water supply currently leaves the town with about 256 days of water on hand, so no new drought restrictions are planned yet. While Raleigh residents face mandatory outdoor watering limits, Apex and its shared system with Cary are monitoring levels and would only consider restrictions if supply dropped to 180 days.

• Early heat wave puts strain on strawberry farmers in the Triangle (wral.com) — Strawberry lovers in Apex can head to DJ’s Berry Patch a couple of weeks earlier than usual, as early heat is ripening berries fast and farmers worry they’ll go bad. The same heat and ongoing drought are forcing Triangle growers to irrigate heavily, juggle higher fuel costs, and adjust prices, while trying to protect both strawberries and other crops like hay and small grains.

• Fayetteville divided as data center debate intensifies (abc11.com) — Fayetteville officials are pausing a massive proposed data center project to study its environmental and infrastructure impacts, while residents remain split over jobs versus resource strain. Apex is mentioned as one of the North Carolina communities that has already approved a temporary moratorium on data centers, underscoring how Triangle-area towns are wrestling with similar growth and technology pressures.
