• Cary Town Council backs preserving $1M land as natural open space (heraldsun.com) — Cary residents should know that Town Council has agreed to permanently preserve the $1 million town-owned parcels on Kildaire Farm Road as natural open space, rather than selling them. Council members now want deed restrictions or similar tools to lock in that protection and may also explore the land's possible historic significance, including whether it once housed the former Cary Colored School.
   

• Parents 'skeptical' about Wake Schools' special education initiative (abc11.com) — Wake County school leaders met in Cary to outline a multiyear plan to improve outcomes for special education students, but many parents remain unconvinced it tackles staffing and support needs. Families say past funding cut proposals have eroded trust and want stronger commitments to social-emotional support, training, and more qualified special education teachers before the plan moves forward this winter.
   

• Long lines at NC DMV? Not anymore. See average wait times at your local office (newsobserver.com) — If you dread the DMV, Cary's office is still among the slower ones in North Carolina, with average waits near 55 minutes last month—though that's a huge improvement from more than five hours a year ago. Statewide, new staff, offices, online options and streamlined procedures have slashed average waits to under 16 minutes at most driver's license locations.
