• New marker honors patriots (mtairynews.com) — Elkin residents recently gathered at the Overmountain Victory Wayside Exhibit by the Elkin Recreation Center to dedicate a new America 250 patriots marker honoring local Revolutionary War participants. The town partnered with the local DAR chapter, featured musket-fire reenactments, and welcomed remarks from historians and state Sen. Eddie Settle to highlight Elkin’s role along the historic Overmountain Victory Trail.

• Convicted sex offender in Surry Jail under $5 million bond (thewilkesrecord.com) — A registered sex offender from outside Elkin was arrested by Elkin Police after allegedly being near a children’s play area at Crater Park on Standard Street. He is being held in Surry County Jail on a $5 million bond and is scheduled for a Surry County court appearance in July.
