• Nelson Jones Sowers (theenterprise.net) — Stuart residents are mourning the passing of 87-year-old Nelson Jones Sowers, a longtime community servant and veteran who died Monday at his home. Visitation will be Friday evening and funeral services Saturday morning at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, with burial at Ross Harbour Methodist Church Cemetery and memorials requested for Horsepasture fire and rescue groups. 
• Halloween Mayhem returns for fourth year Saturday (theenterprise.net) — Wrestling fans in Stuart can catch the fourth annual Halloween Mayhem this Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Stuart Rotary Memorial Building, with doors opening at 6 p.m. The family-friendly card features three championship matches, a tribute to a beloved manager, and discounted admission for those in costume, with proceeds supporting a local American Vets Riders program.
• Cup of Ambition Day raises more than $900 for Imagination Library (theenterprise.net) — Patrick County families, including many in Stuart, will benefit from more than $900 raised for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library during the recent Cup of Ambition Day. Local partners like Stagecoach Coffee and the Rotary Club of Stuart helped rally donations so young children can keep receiving free monthly books.
