The recognition highlights OKC's diversified economy, voter-approved investment in infrastructure and quality of life, and high-profile wins like the Thunder's 2025 NBA title and upcoming Olympic hosting role.
   

2. OKCPS Foundation hosts Coat-a-Kid event to provide free winter coats (koco.com) — Students at Kaiser Elementary in Oklahoma City received free winter coats through the OKCPS Foundation's Coat-a-Kid program, aimed at keeping kids warm enough to attend school regularly. Organizers say providing new, high-quality coats not only eases financial strain on families but also helps students feel supported and valued, with more Coat-a-Kid events planned across the district this winter.
   

3. Oklahoma City nonprofits working to simplify homelessness support (koco.com) — Families in Oklahoma City facing housing loss will soon have a single phone number, online form, and in-person hub to connect with help before they enter the shelter system. Two local nonprofits, City Rescue Mission and City Care, are launching the One Door OKC program with United Way funding, aiming to open by November 1 and offering case managers to quickly problem-solve housing crises.
   

4. John Rex Polytechnic High School to welcome students in fall 2027 (kfor.com) — Downtown Oklahoma City will get its first new high school in 50 years when John Rex Polytechnic High School opens to freshmen in fall 2027. The converted office building near NW 6th and Hudson will offer hands-on, career-focused programs like engineering, cybersecurity, and biomedical sciences, with 7th and 8th graders also joining as the campus builds its culture.
   

5. Oklahoma City Rallies Together to Take Action at Susan G. Komen® MORE THAN PINK Walk on Saturday October 31st (oklahomafarmreport.com) — Oklahoma City residents are invited to join the 2026 Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk at Scissortail Park on October 31, raising funds for breast cancer research, patient support, and advocacy. Organizers hope to collect $250,000, highlighting that thousands of Oklahomans rely on Komen's navigation and financial assistance programs to overcome barriers to timely, high-quality care.
