• There's a name for working families who are surviving but not thriving in Rhode Island: ALICE (newsfromthestates.com) — A young family renting a three-bedroom house in East Providence for $2,500 a month illustrates how many working Rhode Islanders are barely covering basics despite steady jobs. A new United Way report finds about 43% of households statewide fall below the ALICE threshold, struggling with housing, childcare, and everyday costs even while employed, and urges policymakers and employers to rethink how they support these residents.
   

• Sterling Silver Replica of Ground Zero Cross Presented to 9/11 Families at 25th Anniversary Banquet (instoremag.com) — An East Providence jewelry manufacturer, Carla Corp, helped create sterling silver replicas of the Ground Zero Cross that were presented to hundreds of 9/11 victims' families at the attacks' 25th anniversary banquet. Working with designer Robert Manse, the local firm incorporated "sacred steel" from the World Trade Center site into each cross, honoring first responders and families with a carefully crafted, American-made tribute.
