📰 News we're reading

• You're not dreaming — Pawtucket Avenue is being paved (eastbayri.com subscription) — If you drive Pawtucket Avenue, expect big changes: the notoriously rough stretch from Warren Avenue to Veterans Memorial Parkway in East Providence is finally being milled and paved, with completion targeted by Sept. 2. Funded as a state project, this phase precedes a 2027 sidewalk and curb overhaul, and city officials say years of coordination pushed the work to happen sooner.

• 80-year-old East Providence woman is outstanding fisherman (turnto10.com) — An 80-year-old East Providence resident, Ginny Reed, has become a standout angler after nearly four decades fishing with the Frances Fleet out of Point Judith. She now fishes alongside her grandsons, one a captain and one a mate, and is celebrated for record catches like a notable 30-inch fluke while proving age and gender don't limit time on the water.

• Largest Applebee's franchisee, based in Independence, sued over employee data breach (cleveland.com) — An East Providence resident, former Applebee's server Jesse Lema, is among plaintiffs suing the nation's largest Applebee's franchisee over a major employee data breach. Lawsuits filed in federal court say hackers accessed sensitive information, and Lema reports fraudulent bank charges and more scam calls since the incident, as thousands of workers nationwide seek class-action status.
