While Greenville ranked fourth overall, Clemson still made the leaderboard for its mix of athletic excitement, economic stability, cultural events and natural beauty that visitors find hard to resist.

2. Sarah Custer returns to Clemson as Executive Director of Emergency Management (clemson.edu) — Clemson University has brought back former emergency management leader Sarah Custer to serve as Executive Director of Emergency Management, overseeing preparedness and safety across campus. Her previous tenure included guiding Clemson through COVID-19, restructuring emergency operations, and leading large-scale crisis exercises. Residents and campus community members can expect continued focus on risk assessment, emergency planning, and institutional resilience under her leadership.

3. America 250: How to visit historic home at Clemson University (greenvilleonline.com) — If you’re looking for a meaningful local outing, Fort Hill—the historic home at the heart of Clemson University’s founding—is open as a public museum right on campus. The story of Clemson’s evolution, including desegregation and its ties to enslaved labor, is interpreted there, and visitors can also explore nearby spots like Memorial Stadium, the Botanical Gardens, and Keowee‑Toxaway State Park.

4. Clemson University and the United Way of Pickens County continue impactful partnership (clemson.edu) — Clemson University is deepening its year-round partnership with United Way of Pickens County, including free tax preparation events held on campus that served hundreds of filers this spring. Faculty, staff, and students are volunteering through Free File, hygiene kit projects, literacy programs, and the annual workplace campaign, which raises at least $100,000 each fall to support neighbors across Pickens and surrounding counties.

Clemson students preserve history through gravestone restoration (wspa.com) — Clemson University students are spending hundreds of hours restoring gravestones at historic St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Clemson, where founder Thomas Green Clemson is buried. Using careful cleaning, repairs, GPS, and lidar mapping, they’re preserving local history now and plan to help additional Clemson-area churches next semester, while gaining real-world historic preservation experience.
