1. DOT received $34M in earmarks. What it could mean for SC road projects? (islandpacket.com) — Lexington drivers could see major changes at Hope Ferry Road and Sunset Boulevard, where a state earmark will fund turn lanes, signal upgrades, and a new connector road over the next four years. Lawmakers also secured money to study a new Calks Ferry Road interchange at I-20, as part of $34 million in statewide transportation earmarks that may reshuffle project priorities.
   

2. Lexington Police raise money for South Carolina Special Olympics (wistv.com) — Lexington residents can support Special Olympics today and Friday as local police officers collect donations at Chick-fil-A locations on Augusta Road and Platt Springs Road. Money raised through the Law Enforcement Torch Run helps cover housing, uniforms, food, and transportation for more than 30,000 South Carolina Special Olympians, with Lexington officers emphasizing the joy of connecting directly with athletes.
   

3. River Bluff grad named new Blowfish head coach (thenewirmonews.com) — Lexington baseball fans will see a familiar face leading the Lexington County Blowfish as River Bluff High graduate and former team standout Zach Cowart becomes head coach. Cowart, a two-time Coastal Plain League All-Star, plans to build a strong, community-centered culture while recruiting for the 2027 summer season and balancing a new college coaching role.
   

4. WWII Veteran celebrates his 101st birthday (abccolumbia.com) — A World War II veteran living in Lexington just marked an impressive milestone as Bruce Cook celebrated his 101st birthday with a surprise party at Cola Wealth Advisors. Staff honored the retired staff sergeant with cake, balloons, heartfelt cards, and historic 1925 newspapers, recognizing his decorated service and his recent French Legion of Honor award.
