Willow Springs Park set for major playground upgrades, splash pad (wjhl.com) — Willow Springs Park in Johnson City is getting a full playground replacement and a new splash pad, with work already underway on the nearly 30-year-old play area. Funded by a mix of state grant money and local matching funds, the inclusive new space is expected to open in spring 2027, giving families more ways to enjoy the park in warm weather.
   

2. Great Lecture Series begins Sept. 18 at ETSU (johnsoncitypress.com) — ETSU is kicking off its 2026–27 Great Lectures Series in Johnson City on September 18 with free, public talks at the D.P. Culp Student Center. ETSU releases complete 2026-27 men's basketball schedule (wjhl.com) — ETSU has released its full 2026–27 men's basketball schedule, featuring 19 home games at Freedom Hall in Johnson City, the most in more than a decade. Fans are urged to renew season tickets now, with a slate that includes the Johnson City Honda Charity Game and a challenging mix of non-conference and SoCon opponents.
   

4. BWXT receives site plan approval. Here's what to know. (johnsoncitypress.com) — A major nuclear-related expansion in nearby Jonesborough has cleared its final county hurdle, and the contractor overseeing the project is already hiring for 13 positions at its Johnson City office. The fully funded, $1.6 billion federal project will add new HPDU processing facilities, increase traffic and construction activity through 2030, and follows a recent wastewater spill that remains under state investigation.
   

5. Johnson City woman presented with proclamation from Gov. Lee for her 101st birthday (wjhl.com) — A longtime nurse living at Christian Assisted Living in Johnson City has been honored on her 101st birthday with a special proclamation from Gov. Bill Lee. Surrounded by the East Tennessee Nurse Honor Guard, she reflected on a lifetime of caring for others and the importance of recognizing nurses' hard work and dedication to their communities.
