Dallas County homeowners may be missing homestead exemptions – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth (nbcdfw.com) — Thousands of Dallas County homeowners may be missing out on valuable homestead exemptions that can significantly cut property tax bills and even generate refunds for prior years. New analysis from the Child Poverty Action Lab highlights especially large gaps in South Dallas, Fair Park, and Pleasant Grove, and urges residents to check their status and apply for free through the Dallas Central Appraisal District.
   

2. This guide walks you through ticket discounts, DART and parking options, what you can bring, and the best attractions for children so you can stretch your budget and energy while making the most of a full day at Fair Park.
   

3. Dallas Finally Breaks Ground on Police Academy Decades in the Making (lawenforcementtoday.com) — Dallas has finally broken ground on a long-discussed police training center at UNT Dallas, launching a 20-acre campus in southern Dallas to replace the department's aging, temporary academy. City leaders still must close a large funding gap beyond the $50 million already approved by voters, so future bond decisions and private investment will shape how quickly this critical facility becomes reality.
   

4. North Texas under a heat advisory Sunday (star-telegram.com) — Dallas residents are under a National Weather Service heat advisory on Sunday from noon to 8 p.m., with heat index values expected to reach up to 108 degrees. Anyone working or playing outside in Dallas County should take extra precautions to avoid heat-related illness, especially by staying hydrated, limiting strenuous activity, and checking on vulnerable neighbors.
   

5. More than 400 first responders climb 110 flights in Dallas to honor 9/11 fallen (cbsnews.com) — Hundreds of firefighters, police, and EMTs climbed 110 flights in downtown Dallas on Saturday to honor first responders lost in the 9/11 attacks and related illnesses. The Dallas 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Main Street Garden and Comerica Bank Tower also helps younger first responders learn that history, with organizers already planning next year's event.
