Harris County commissioners advance proposed property tax rate increase (click2houston.com) — Harris County commissioners in Houston have tentatively advanced a 9.6% property tax rate increase, which could add about $138 a year for a $300,000 home if finalized on September 17. Local homeowners should watch the upcoming public hearing closely, as the final vote will determine the official rate and how county programs are funded in the coming budget year.
   

2. Houston rider speaks out after pregnant horse struck, killed by truck (fox26houston.com) — A Houston rider is grieving after his pregnant racehorse was struck and killed by a pickup while he rode along North Wayside Drive with a trail-ride group. Houston police say the crash, which left the horse's body near a Harris Health facility for days, remains under investigation as the family questions why removal took so long.

Houston shooting: 14-year-old shot at Tidwell Park, 3 possible suspects detained (fox26houston.com) — A 14-year-old boy was shot in the leg during an attempted robbery at Tidwell Park in Houston's East Little York neighborhood while riding an electric scooter. Houston police say three armed suspects were later found at a nearby apartment complex and detained, while the teen was hospitalized in stable condition.
