• Texas approves $138B transportation plan, including Houston-area highway projects (fox26houston.com) — Houston drivers are in line for major changes as Texas' new $138 billion, 10-year transportation plan specifically funds North Houston Highway Improvement Project work, I-10 West upgrades, and resiliency improvements at I-10 and the San Jacinto River. The statewide package boosts congestion relief, safety, and maintenance, but Houston-area corridors rank among the top priorities as the region keeps growing.
   

• Houston Christian upsets FCS-ranked SE Louisiana to win season opener (houstonchronicle.com) — Houston football fans have reason to cheer as Houston Christian University's Huskies opened their season with a 34-28 upset of FCS-ranked Southeastern Louisiana, powered by quarterback Cutter Stewart's 268 total yards. The game was played in Hammond, Louisiana, but the win sets up a crosstown matchup at Rice on Sept. 5 and signals a promising start for the Houston-based program.
