Toys R Us Nationwide Comeback Includes 7 VA Stores
Seven standalone Toys R Us stores will open in Virginia as the brand rebounds, a company representative told Patch.
Seven Virginia stores are among the 120 Toys R Us plans to open nationwide ahead of the holiday season.
EJ Media group, which represents the brand, tells Patch seven new standalone stores will be opening their doors in the state. Some could open as soon as this weekend.
Toys R Us filed for bankruptcy in 2018, eventually closing or selling all of its 735 locations around the country. The bankruptcy filing came amid slumping sales and debt that reached about $5 billion. The chain has faced increasing competition from Amazon, Walmart and Target.

A small number of shops eventually reopened in partnership with Macy's, but in September, the company announced a more comprehensive comeback: 120 new stores to add to the 40 standalone locations in the country.
Part of the Toys R Us relaunch includes a focus on adults and the content creator ecosystem, with some locations launching "Creator Studios," described as dedicated spaces where influencers, creators and toy brands can create content, unveil new products and host toy reveals or other events. Select stores will also feature candy shops and cafés.
