Veterans Can Meet Hiring Employers At Free Arlington Career Summit

Marymount University will host a free summit offering veterans career workshops, coaching and connections with employers.

ARLINGTON, VA — Military veterans and service members preparing to leave the armed forces can receive career guidance and meet prospective employers during a free, one-day summit at Marymount University in Arlington.

Career Forward: Veteran Transition Summit is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the university’s Ballston Center. Marymount is organizing the event in partnership with Virginia Works and the Virginia Department of Veterans Services.

The summit will feature workshops, career planning and networking intended to help participants explain how their military experience applies to civilian jobs. Attendees will be able to meet career coaches, veterans service organizations and employers recruiting for open positions.

Participants Can Choose Career Pathways

Participants will choose between two career pathways, one focused on public service and the other on private industry. Sessions will address converting military experience into civilian qualifications, applying for government jobs, entrepreneurship, personal branding and financial planning during a career transition.

“This summit is an opportunity to honor veterans not only for their service but also by ensuring they have the tools, support and opportunities to thrive in their next chapter,” Glenn Davidson, Marymount’s chief strategy officer and executive director of the university’s Career Center, said in a statement. “We’re proud to bring together partners across sectors to help veterans and transitioning military personnel translate their experience into meaningful careers.”

Participants will finish the summit by developing personalized 30-, 60- and 90-day plans with assistance from career coaches and veteran navigators, according to the university.

The event follows an April Career Forward summit organized by Marymount and Virginia Works for displaced federal workers and contractors.

Veterans and transitioning service members can find registration information on the Career Forward summit website or through the event’s online registration page.

Organizations interested in recruiting veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses can also register as career fair exhibitors.
