Charlottesville man charged after crashing vehicle on Ridge St. after VSP terminated pursuit (cvillerightnow.com) — A Charlottesville man faces DUI, eluding, and weapons charges after Virginia State Police ended a pursuit that began on I-64 and the driver crashed on Ridge Street. The collision briefly shut down part of Ridge Street between Cherry Avenue and Oak Street, caused minor injuries to those involved, and led to the suspect being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.

Charlottesville's partnership with direct-to-housing providers ended (vpm.org) — Charlottesville is fast-tracking a 24/7 emergency shelter at 2000 Holiday Drive as it prepares to bar camping at the Free Bridge encampment starting Sept. 1. The city's partnership with two direct-to-housing consultants has ended, but officials say they remain committed to individualized housing navigation, added shelter capacity, and coordinated cleanups while businesses and service providers debate how the plan will affect people living outside.

Charlottesville to Dewberry Hotel owner: Do something, or get off the pot (augustafreepress.com) — City leaders in Charlottesville are pressuring Dewberry Hotel owner John Dewberry to either finish, sell, or remove the long-stalled structure at 201 E. Water Street that has loomed unfinished since 2009. The city manager and attorney have demanded a detailed plan within 60 days and are preparing a new structural evaluation, signaling they're no longer willing to tolerate the downtown eyesore indefinitely.

Charlottesville Inclusive Media continues internship program for its second year (cvilletomorrow.org) — Charlottesville Inclusive Media is growing its second-year internship program, placing young journalists and creators at Charlottesville Tomorrow, In My Humble Opinion, and Vinegar Hill Magazine. Interns are gaining hands-on media, marketing, and community engagement experience, from Tonsler Park events to storytelling about Black farmers and local history, while helping strengthen Charlottesville's information ecosystem.
