FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Fredericksburg police have selected Crystal Hill as the department’s next deputy chief of police, according to a department press release.

The department said the selection followed a competitive statewide search for candidates for the leadership role. According to the release, the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police facilitated the assessment and interview process.

Hill has been serving in the role on an interim basis for the past four months. In the release, the department said Hill “stood out for her extensive knowledge, leadership abilities, and dedication to both the department and the Fredericksburg community.”

Hill began her career with the Fredericksburg Police Department in 2006 as a communications officer, according to the release. The department said her career there spans more than 20 years and includes work in three of the agency’s four divisions, as well as service in every supervisory rank.

Hill has managed or helped implement several agency projects, including the Law Enforcement Phlebotomy Program, the school speed camera installation safety initiative, and Department of Motor Vehicle traffic services and alcohol grants.

Hill holds an associate of applied science degree in criminal justice from Germanna Community College. The release also states that in 2024 she completed the Leading, Educating, and Developing, or LEAD, program through the University of Virginia, along with additional leadership training courses.

According to the department, Hill also has been selected to attend the FBI National Academy in the fall of 2026. The release described the academy as a law enforcement leadership program.
