Snapchat Solicitation Case In Spotsylvania May Involve More Victims

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — A 24-year-old Spotsylvania man is accused of using Snapchat to solicit nude images from girls and threatening those who refused, according to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.

Keynin Burgess was arrested Wednesday, after investigators executed a search warrant in the 6000 block of Nancy Court, authorities said. He was being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

Burgess faces one count of electronic solicitation of a minor, two counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of second or subsequent possession of child pornography, according to the sheriff’s office. The charges are accusations, and Burgess is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Investigators Seek Additional Victims

The investigation began after the sheriff’s office Child Victims Unit received several cyber tips from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, authorities said.

The tips concerned a person who was meeting girls through Snapchat and soliciting nude images from them, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators said the person threatened girls who refused until they provided a photograph.

Detectives with the sheriff’s office Internet Crimes Against Children unit investigated the tips and identified information that led them to the suspect’s address, authorities said.

Multiple victims ranging in age from 11 to 17 have been identified, according to the sheriff’s office. Detectives believe there may be additional victims, and the investigation remains active.

The agency also works with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children on reports involving child sexual abuse material uploaded, stored or shared through online accounts.
