WATCH: Fredericksburg Officers Rescue Drowning Swimmer During River Patrol
Fredericksburg police officers rescued a drowning swimmer while conducting alcohol enforcement patrols along the riverbank Sunday.
FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Three Fredericksburg police officers are being credited with rescuing a swimmer from the Rappahannock River after responding to cries for help while conducting a proactive patrol Sunday afternoon.

According to the Fredericksburg Police Department, Officers Farino, A., Hernandez-Rios and Simpkins were patrolling the riverbank and issuing summonses for alcohol violations when they heard people screaming that someone was drowning in the river.

Officer Entered River To Rescue Swimmer
Police said Officer Farino immediately entered the water to reach the swimmer while additional officers responded to assist with the rescue.
Working together, the officers were able to bring the swimmer safely back to shore.

The department praised the officers' quick response and teamwork, saying their actions helped save the swimmer's life.
"True commitment to both safety and service!" the Fredericksburg Police Department wrote in a social media post announcing the rescue.
The department did not release the swimmer's identity or provide additional information about the person's condition.
